HISTORY OF BAROSSA COTTAGE WINES

Vineyards and Wine
We currently have two vineyards. The larger of the two is located at Eden Valley where we live and the other at Angaston. Eden Valley
has been producing since 1977, our first vintage from Angaston was in 1991. We produce white and red wines from only our own grapes, with the remainder of our harvest being sold to local wineries for their wine production.

Pug Cottage
The pug cottage was restored in 1989 after which trading began for both the Barossa Quilt & Craft Cottage and Barossa Cottage Wines. Both businesses progressed very well and built up a large clientele, so much so that the cottage was no longer big enough to house both businesses.

New Building
In the year 2000 we built the new building which has a wine sales area and also has a gallery to display the quilts and hold quilting classaes and lectures. The building was officially opened in October 2000. Comments from all visitors have been extremely positive, such as

The wine sales area being tastefully done with a warm inviting feel about it

The gallery being an excellent way to display the quilts and a brilliant place to learn with lots of room to spread out all sewing gear.

Owners
Ray and Heather Bartsch are local residents living only 15 minutes from the cottage at Eden Valley. Their house is set amongst the hills with vineyards all round. Ray is an experienced viticulturalist with approximately 30 years experience. Ray not only works his own land but also contracts for other local vineyards.

Heather has been quilting for some 15 years. She is very good with her knowledge not only of quilting but of the products and materials available. Heather also is an excellent and patient teacher with a wealth of help for any skill level of quilter.
